Blackjack is a card game where players try to beat the dealer by getting a hand value as close to 21 as possible without going over. While the game is simple, there are a few important rules to understand.

Players vs Dealer

In Blackjack, players do not compete against each other. Each player plays only against the dealer.

Card Values

Number cards are worth their number.

Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth 10.

Aces are worth 1 or 11, depending on which value helps the hand more.

Starting the Game

Each player places a bet before the cards are dealt. Then each player receives two cards. The dealer also receives two cards, usually one face up and one face down.

Player Actions

Players can choose several actions during their turn:

Hit – Take another card

Stand – Keep current cards

Double Down – Double the bet and take one more card

Split – If the first two cards have the same value, split into two hands

Dealer Rules

After all players finish their turns, the dealer reveals their hidden card. The dealer must draw cards until their total is 17 or higher. The dealer cannot choose to stop early.

Bust

If a player’s hand goes over 21, this is called a bust. The player immediately loses the round.

Winning

A player wins if:

Their hand is closer to 21 than the dealer

The dealer busts

The player gets Blackjack (Ace and a 10-value card)
