Number of Players
Poker is usually played with 2 to 10 players at a table.
Cards Needed
Poker is played with a standard 52-card deck. Jokers are not used in most poker games.
Goal of Poker
The goal of poker is to win chips or money by either:
Having the best hand at the end of the round
Getting other players to fold before the end of the round
The Dealer
At the start of each round, one player is the dealer. The dealer shuffles and deals the cards. The dealer position usually moves to the next player after each round.
Blinds or Antes
Many poker games require forced bets at the start of a round. These are called blinds or antes. This ensures there is always something in the pot to play for.
Dealing Cards
Each player is dealt cards. Depending on the type of poker, players may receive:
All cards face down
Some cards face up
Or share community cards on the table
Betting Rounds
Poker is played in betting rounds. During a betting round, players can choose one of the following actions:
Check – Pass the action without betting (only if no one else has bet)
Bet – Put chips into the pot
Call – Match another player’s bet
Raise – Increase the bet
Fold – Give up the hand and leave the round
The Pot
All bets go into the center of the table, called the pot. The winner of the round takes all the chips in the pot.
The Showdown
If more than one player is still in the round after the final betting round, players reveal their hands. This is called the showdown. The player with the best hand wins the pot.

You can win a poker round in two ways:
